Yes, you can.

My friend asked me, “I can say, you drink here?”
My answer was, “Yes. Yes, you can.”

と友人に聞かれた、”I can say, you drink here?”
私の答えは, “Yes, you can.” はい、オケです。

I did not say my friend could get into Harvard University. I’m not saying you can get into Harvard either, but I am telling you you can say, “You drink here?”

My friend doesn’t want to go to Harvard, she wants to sell drinks at her cafe. And she wants to sell them now. Later, if she wants to go to Harvard, she can say, “Is this for here?”

私の友人がハーバード大学に入れるとは言っていない。でも、”You drink here？”と言うことはできる。

You need to take a test to get into Harvard, or Todai, or a lot of things. Tests are designed to find out things you cannot say. Even to make it hard for you to say the things you can say. Bars aren’t like that. In a bar we just want to talk to each other, any way we can. You will surprise yourself with how much you can say.

The last time I was a Troll Yuuske came in and sat between me and Moose, from France. Yuuske really wanted to talk with Moose. Yuuske spent about 20 minutes telling me how much he wished he could speak English and how sure he was that he couldn’t. I helped Yuuske out just a little. He asked me if ‘movie’ was the right word for ‘eiga’. And I said just start with that. Try saying, “Movie?”
Yuuske did. He looked over at Moose and said, “Movie?” and Moose smiled and said something about Fast and Furious 9 which was in theatres then. Yuuske had just seen Fast and Furious, and without any help from me Yuuske said, “Today I watch action movie.”
