Come as you are, be who you are. Speaking Japanese is fine. Sitting back and listening to whatever is going on around you is fine. I think your English will surprise you.
It is not easy for everybody to get along, but Japan has found a way to do it. There are a lot of rules and expectations. Those rules and expectations create a lot of harmony an a lot of unhappiness. People have to hide a lot away. See no, hear no, speak no whatever it is you have to keep it locked up inside. Sometimes we need a chance to let it all out.
One of the things people in Japan have to do is learn English. And they do, for a test, and then they lock it up and throw away the key.
